Why I've been missing and some neat items to show you...

I've been a lurking blogger lately. But I have a good reason!

I am about to be in an art show. It's nothing big, just a mother/daughter exhibit during Fort Worth's Gallery night on March 24th. But it's big to me!!! I am so nervous! This is the first time I've ever put my artwork out there for critics, buyers, and art lovers to see! All while I stand next to it and answer questions about it. I am not formerly trained! I have zero formal training. Hopefully that won't be evident to the "critics" and if it is I hope they don't say anything to me about it. I might run out of there crying.

So I've been painting and worrying. That's where I've been.

I tried to do a little something today just to keep in touch with you and have something to link up at the "Cowgirl Up!" linky party tonight (starts at 8:30, don't forget!!!).

Can someone tell me what this is? I have an idea of what I'd like to do with it, but I have no idea what it is! It says "Ideal" on the inside and It has been outdoors, you can tell. It isn't from a lamp because there's no hole in the "bowl" part, or anywhere for wires to go. Any ideas?

How cute is that little bee skep. Wanna know a secret? I got it at Michael's, 40% off. It had this ugly plastic cactus wired to it but I saw the beauty it could become. I think it's just too adorable! And I found  the old alarm clock on craigslist this week. Little clocks look good anywhere and everywhere. You can never have to many I think.

Here we have my china hutch (which is for sale BTW). If you live in TX and offer me a halfway decent price you can come and get it! Anyways, while I wait to transform the dining room I need to store the ironstone so I tried to arrange it a little bit. If you follow me on Pintrest you've probably noticed my hutch pinnings lately. Lots and lots of inspo!! I can't wait to build my dream hutch!!! Yes, you heard that right. Hubby has agreed to help me build one. Woo-hoo!

And finally, old flatware. Why do I love this stuff? I'm kinda obsessed with it lately. I love to research the maker and pattern. I love the historical possibilities of it. It is such a common household item, yet some of them are so ornate and interesting they are like little works of art. I found a bunch for 25 cents each. All of them were truly old and tarnished, like these from 1914.

Don't forget to link up to the party tonight!!!

Best wishes to you on your show.I hope we get to see your artwork. As far as that piece I am wondering if it had some sort of bell or something on it.I think I have seen something like that before that was a bell with a rope or something to ring?

Good luck at the art show! Take lots of pictures so we can see the fun. I agree with the first comment that your unknown item held a bell. Not sure though!

My friend has a fireplace screen from the 1800's and her screen has similar attachments that fit on the screen and hold a bowl of porridge so that you can keep your porridge, soup, etc warm until you are ready to eat it. The swing arm lets you adjust how close you got your bowl to the fire. Hope this helps. Good luck with your show!

A wall sconce for a kerosene lamp is my best guess.

I hope your art show goes well! It takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there and I think in the end you'll be happy you did.

Good luck with your art show! You are an extremely talented artist. Loved all the paintings you have shown us!

I have seen you piece before and I believe it is a piece from a old kerosene lamp as well. Here is one I found for you to compare on Ebay. Hope it helps!

Have lots of fun at your art show!

I am crazy for your knives--silver has always been a big weakness for me!

Interesting ideas about the "bowl warmer" and part of a kerosene lamp thing. I always thought they were to hold a clay pot for a plant--? Any way, that's how I am using two around the exterior kitchen sink window! They are filled with Spanish Moss Roses--something pretty to enjoy while doing the dishes!

Coolio - I think your little iron piece is a bowl-ish thing - the little finger would attach to something with the bowl open to hold something. I was reminded of putting something together the other day, and it had a piece that fit together like that.

Linsey, other comments are correct, you are the very lucky owner of a lamp holder. Not the kind on pedestals, but those which have the bowl on bottom which hold the oil for the lamps. I have seen these in old homes, as well as period movies on TV/cable. Lucky you !! I've been looking for one of these for a long time.

I saw your piece in a home I looked at today in Terrell, TX. It was attached to the wall and held an old lamp. I thought of you when I saw it, I probably wouldn't have noticed it if not for your post.

Aw, thank you! That's so cool. And if it weren't for all of you I wouldn't know what in the heck this thing is!
