.•*.*.*•.A Vintage Jadeite CHrIsTmAs.•*.*.*•.

Have you ever cleaned a room that was so messy that you messed up all the rooms around it when you cleaned it?

My dining room was that messy. It's sorta grand central station in our house. Not only do I use it as my personal "pack-n-ship" wrapping area for my Etsy shop, but it has done double duty as Santa's workshop the past 2 weeks.

Oh, and I can't forget to mention that it's a "crafting with German glitter and a glue gun" and "oil painting drying" room.

Ok, ok. You get the point. Let's just say that I have spent two hours helping this room un-hoard. My sweet reward was setting out my Jadeite and getting this table ready for Christmas dinner! I always seem to do neutrals, so this colorful setting is a fun change for me (and the kids)

Now before you get to scrolling through these pictures I want you to play a game. Remember the game "What's different between these two pictures?" in Highlights kids magazine? Look at the above photo.

Now look at this one...

That's right smarty pants. The vintage tablecloth. Had a "Doh!" moment and shot most of the photos before realizing I forgot it. And honestly, I'm a super lazy photographer after cleaning out the hoard, so you'll just have to imagine it there in each picture. Consider it your gift to me! :)

Oops...did I leave my rechargeable candles in the photo?

I just got these "vintage spoon" napkin rings at my FAVORITE kitchen store, Sur La Table. A splurge for me but, I really have been searching for napkin rings for-evah!

The place mats are Waverly brand, from Tuesday Morning. I actually have the back side showing, the front has modern looking snowflakes. I liked the back so much better.

In the hall near the dining room ...

Thank you so much for stopping by little elves... Linsey

The Recipe Box

Few things are as personal and sentimental as a grandmothers recipe box. They may be becoming a thing of the past in fact. What do you think? It seems like everything is becoming digitized and Pinterested.

Boxes full of timeworn old recipe cards are the diary of the kitchen life of a woman. And I can't imagine how this lovely old white wooden box full of handwritten recipe cards and clippings from 1930's Good Housekeeping magazines ended up on the back of a dusty shelf at the Antique Mall. But there it was. When I spotted it I hoped so badly to find old recipes inside...and I did! Lots! And mostly pie, cake, icing and pudding recipes. That's the fun stuff! There was even a little black and white photo of two pretty young ladies hidden in the back, behind the "puddings" section. And so, in my own mind, I was able to put a face to this old box and feel the history of it.

I was delighted to find it, but when I turned to show my mom we discussed how it was sad too. Sad that this "diary" didn't end up in the hands of a descendant who would cherish it.

Of course this made me fall in love with it that much more. I had to adopt it and honor it with a blog post.

So here's to you, mystery Grandma...

Here's to you and your best childhood friend, or maybe you were sisters...

I bet you made your man very happy with your home cookin'...
Or maybe you indulged a bit too much in your own sweet creations, and needed a reminder of the girlish figure you had way back when...

Whatever your story is...

You now have a home with my family. With MY recipes...♥

My Entry Way: REJOICE! A Savior is Born!

Happy Sunday Gals! ( Hey...if "You guys" can apply to both sexes then I say "Gals" can too, it's only fair).

If you recall, my entry way last Christmas was a retro theme with whites and aquas and lots of old kitsch things. I'm so unorganized, I have looked through all of my old posts for 20 minutes trying to find the pics of it. If you find that old post, or my marbles, let me know!

I still have my retro setup, which I have been working on most of the day. Here is a peek...

But I wanted something earth tone-y and natural looking for the entry way this year. Something in my heart instantly told me to center everything around the nativity, and the reason for the season, the birth of Jesus.

So here it is, the least "blingy" Christmas vignette in the house. But I love that it is right there, front and center by the front door. May my family be reminded daily of the reason we celebrate and honor Christmas day. It was the day the world received the biggest gift it will ever get.

Did any of you "Gals" happen to notice that I have stopped hosting the Scoop link party for awhile? In case you did, I just want you to know that there was no reason really, other than the business of life! Teaching art, raising 2 little girls and trying to paint and take care of a household, and a new puppy...it adds up. And there are only so many hours in the day. So, I had to take a little break from playing the hostess for awhile.

I adore my Scoop co-hosts! Please keep on keepin' on, by linking up every Tuesday. I know I will!

Also, stay tuned for many more Christmas posts in the week ahead, with lots of pics. I love and appreciate each and every one of you who stop by to look at my little corner of the world, and wish you a fun filled holiday season!!
