Summer break in fiiiinallly here! And although I am not a fan of the Texas heat, I love vacation as much as the next school teacher. There's finally time to play and shop and visit friends and paint some paintings!
One of the first things on the summer agenda was a summer haircut for the kids.
I just happened to drive down Main Street in little downtown Humble, TX. Killing time before the hair appointment. I noticed what appeared to be a new antique store in one of the old storefronts. I whipped my car around and ran up to the door to peek in. And by pure chance I noticed my friend Ellen, of "Ellen's Timeless Treasures", standing on a ladder hanging a light fixture. She showed me into the shop, which was scheduled to open in a few days. She had moved to this new location, and had the new shop looking absolutely adorable. I snapped a few pics to share with you...
The next stop was another unplanned detour. I noticed that the "Humble Trade Days" show was going on at our local civic center. My daughter and I walked through the booths of the open air pavillion quickly. There were only 3 or 4 vendors selling "antiques". Most of the stalls were Scentsy, hair bow, Avon, Premiere Jewelry type stalls. But one lady had a table tucked away, with about 20 pieces of jadeite. I ended up getting 3 old shakers and a refrigerator box for a super great price!! It was my find of the month!
The last thing I have to share with you is another little side project I'm working on. When I did the makeover on my master bedroom HERE, I reclaimed an old "dresser-turned-open-cabinet" from my daughter's room and put it in my bedroom to house my quilts...
This left a pile of books on my daughters desk. She needed a bookshelf desperately. Have you noticed how gosh darn expensive it is for a decent bookcase? A solid wood, somewhat decorative bookcase is hard to find. And it's a pretty penny when you do! I found this one at Goodwill for 19.99. I painted 3 coats of antique white paint on it and called it a day. It was just what I needed and cost next to nothing!
The 2.99 chair, which will go with her 12.99 thrift store desk (yet to be painted) is halfway done. It has one coat of paint on it and as you can tell, I have only wrapped the fabric on the seat loosely to get an idea of what it will look like.
I'd say my first weekend of summer has been pretty productive! And I have SO much more in store for you! Lots of antique shop tours, paintings, projects and even some trips to vintage-y, farm-y places far away. Stay tuned and stay cool my friends! ☼
