Haddy Liz's Shabby Nursery

It's dangerous to open your picture folders on your computer. You start out  looking for the picture you took of  Niagara Falls and get sucked into 4 hours of reminiscing.

I came across the pictures of daughter #2's nursery that I did 4 years ago. Sorry about the poor photo quality, this was before I had a descent camera. I had a very tiny budget. I knew I wanted something soft and soothing, a tad shabby, and not over-the-top baby-ish. I already had the pale yellow crib, so I needed to work with that color. I found the slip covered chair and ottoman at Walmart in the same pale yellow. VERY cheap. Have you ever seen the prices on the rockers at babies r us? Redonkulous!

I found the little blue table and rug at Marshal's. I took the drawer to Lowe's and had them make a custom paint for the walls. I told them to cut it in half with white. It was a beautiful pale robin's egg blue. That's my grandmother's birth certificate framed on the wall.

My Mother in law bought me the antique cream colored chest of drawers at an auction and we used this as her changing table. Once again...why buy a "changing table" at Babies R us when she could use this chest of drawers forever?

I added a few accessories and simple white curtains. All white crib bedding finished the look.

Simple and restful...this little room was perfect Mommy and baby. Sigh...now she's going on 4 years old.

  1. Awl Linsey what a beautiful space- I love its well thought-out plan and gorgeous colours.

I know what you mean about "losing oneself in nostalgia" looking up one simple photo in our files.

If you don't use PicMonkey for photo editing you may want to - free and no registration and safe...just going to the "highlight" button will lighten these up without washing them out. Just a suggestion, because they are really lovely.

Hugs. And hug that 4 year old for me quickly before she is going to her first prom, ok??

    Enjoy your Sunday!

  7. What a sweet nursery. I totally agree, why go changing table when a chest is so much more versatile. Thanks for sharing, liz

  12. I love the way your daughters room came out. Yellow is such a happy color, I love it. I also agree with you about getting the chest of drawers over a changing table. It is a very soothing room.
