My mom came to visit me this weekend. We're working on the launch of a rather big project. It's her brain child, I'm just helping out with the blogging and promotion aspects. I will share it with you all very soon!
Hubby agreed to watch the kids while Mom and I spent the day together. We went to the Old Oak Cottage, Ellen's Timeless Treasures, and eventually ended up in the Heights area of Houston.
I went upstairs and to the back. There was a dark booth and hidden under a pile of items was this pie safe...for $35. A beautiful pale blue chippy old French pie safe. I'm going to use it for our project. After that I think it will end up next to my hallway bench as a little side table. It's the PERFECT height and size.
Here are a few pics I took this morning in the backyard.
What do you think? What would you fill this with?

...and notice how the back of it looks like a newish piece of wood? I'm wondering if I should replace it (like with beadboard), paintit, or not even fool with it since it will be on the floor and probably filled with stuff...???
ReplyDeleteLisney
Okay now I'm jealous! I love it! Love the color of it! If the back piece comes easily off, I would replace it with beadboard, but that's just me.

Sweet nostalgia! I lived in the Houston Heights when my children were small. Even back then there was a great little shopping area with antiques and art. I love your pie safe - the soft color and chippy crackly finish of it. I can't wait to see how you fill it, and find out more about your new endeavor!

You have the best shops and antiquing place near you! How fun! The pie safe is fantastic...it will look good with just about anything displayed in it!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you and your mom are up to!!
XO,
Jane
I didn't even notice the back at first! maybe the beadboard is a good idea! Thanks for visiting my place today! xoxo
ReplyDeleteFound your blog today. I love it! Might be easier and fun to line the back with burlap or old book paper or old sheet music. Can't wait to see what you do.
ReplyDeleteI want one!! Can't wait to hear about your project.
ReplyDeleteOMG! I really love that pie safe. The color is wonderful. You are so right...those pottey birds would look awesome in there. I'm going to have to look for one!
ReplyDeleteIf I lived near you I'd come knocking on your door to buy that ADORABLE pie safe!! What a great find. That is my kind of style.

Love the photos! Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I'm glad you found me and glad I found your blog : )
ReplyDeleteI love your pie safe!! That is so fantastic. I love the blue color and the chippiness of the paint and the darling little door knob. I think you found something really unique and one of a kind. Enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI could spend a whole afternoon playing with that pie safe! Love it!!! I kind of like the newer backing. It looks like it was repaired with whatever that old farmer had on hand.
ReplyDeleteThe pie safe is absolutely adorable. LOVE IT ~ wowser ~! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable piece Linsey! Sounds like you and your mom had a lot of fun! Cant wait to see what y'all are up to! I need towhead down to the Heights. I have never been.
ReplyDeleteThe pie safe was a good get. I like the idea of putting beadboard on the back. It sounds like you and your mom have a special relationship just as my Mom and I have. We seem to always be working on some project together or giving each other ideas and advice about something. I look forward to hearing what the two of you are up to. A reminder about "Your Cozy Home Party" if you would like to participate on Tues. Early link up Mon. 8pm. Hope you can join in.------- Shannon

I LOVE it! I'm looking for one myself and I'm really jealous of the one you found. It's just evreything it needs to be. The handle caught my eye for some reason. Mine would go straight to the kitchen so everything I bake/cook can be saved from bugs (I live in the countryside, so in the summer, it can be a problem...)
ReplyDeleteLinsy,

ReplyDeleteHmmm - maybe paint the back wall with a complimentary colour chalk paint and sand it back a bit? It's adorable at any rate. ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteLove the color, and the finish. Beadboard would look great, and so would a faded wallpaper.
