1 Party, 4 Blogs

Hey everyone!  This is Amanda over at The Ivy Cottage Blog!  I recently took a little vacation to Austin, TX and enjoyed some evenings of sunsets, good friends, great margaritas, and starry nights.  It was so nice to spend some time with my hubby and just relax.  Needless to say, this week's features are inspired by vacation, relaxation, and good times.

Check out Betsy's recent makeover at her heighbor's house.  Love the beachy feel and the unusual color palette!

Follow along with Cherise as she creates her "Favorite Things" Quilt!  Stunning!

A little Cowgirl dreaming inspiration from Angie over at Swede Dreamer!

Master Bedroom Change and Thrift Store Lace

Yesterday I showed you my master bedroom here. You guys gave me some incredible compliments and I thank you! I won't say that I killed myself cleaning it for the photoshoot, but hey...I clipped rosemary! And I made the bed. I only do that for special occassions. LOL

Something in the room was really bothering me. That big metal thing above the bed. I had just moved it into the room recently and it just prayed on my mind. I should have gone with my gut instincts the first time around, when I considered putting this old mirror up there with a ribbon. And I must give credit for the ribbon/mirror combo...except I can't remember whose blog I recently saw this on. It was someone who recently redid a bedroom. If you guys know who I'm thinking of let me know so that I can insert her name here. I was really enthralled with her style. If I recall it was in whites/creams like mine.

I want you to noticed my better half's nightstand on the left. I just don't understand why he wouldn't want a fresh flower arrangement, a big crusty corbel and a stack of decorating books right there. Hmph...the things I give up for love! haha

Before the rearranging bug hit me today I had to run an errand. We're going to a wedding this weekend and I needed to go get a wedding gift. My favorite thrift store just happens to be on the way. The thing about finding treasure at the thrift store is going often. SO I never pass up the chance to run in. I'm glad I did today!

Vintage lace curtain for the awkward wavy glass window over the bathtub...2.00

I put a lace panel over a sheer panel. I love the effect! I still get lots of light, but I don't sacrifice privacy.

And this huge rectangular lace trimmed tablecloth. Possible window treatment?

I am so envious of you sewers out there! I've tried a few times and just end up needing anger management.

What do you think of the mirror?

The Master Bedroom

•••
I've always loved a romantic and light bedroom. Even when I was a little girl. Back then I had all white wicker furniture. I remember Laura Ashley bedding and posters of ballerinas. I now realize that I always gravitated to the shabby look...even before it had a name.

Over the past few years I've transitioned all of the sheets in the house to white as well as all of the towels. I like that it always looks fresh, it matches everything and it can be bleached. It's just so crisp!

I've never done a master bedroom overhaul. This is pretty much what it has looked like for 15 years. Uh-oh. Is my bedroom turning into one of those hairstyles that women keep decades after the fad has passed? Haha!

When the first Rachel Ashwell book came out in the mid 90's it was like being struck by lightning...my style had a name! Around the same time I inherited my mothers old bedroom furniture. Dark brown and straight out of the 70's, but good quality. She helped me apply layers of buttery yellow and white paints, wax and romantic vintage glass  hardware. Oh... and lots of sanding to make it chippy.

A chandelier would be the bomb in here. But in Texas...in the hottest sun-facing room of the house, the ceiling fan must stay. : (

My Shabby Chest of drawers..."shabbied" in 1995. I still love it!

Miss Shadow, our first daughter...

Random discount bedding, collected here and there, can marry together seamlessly when white is the theme. This works out well if you can't afford to buy the entire Ralph Lauren Couture Yellow and Green 50 piece bedding set!

I must admit, I've been drooling over the ruffled linen coverlets and shams so popular lately. If the sky was the limit I'd have the crinkliest, ruffliest most romantic bed money could buy. But I'm fine with this. The dog and kids can rough house on it. If something spills on it I can throw it all in the wash without special care. It feels like home and at the end of the day it is my favorite place to be...

...wrinkles, dog hair, sippy cups and all!

Welcome to "Cowgirl Up!" Link Party #12 and my Features from last week. . . .

Welcome to Week 12 of
 Cowgirl Up! Link Party . . .
the party with a cowgirl can-do  spirit!
1 Party, 4 Blogs

Howdy-doo! It's Farmhouse Porch today, and my featured links from this week's "Cowgirl Up!" linky party! I read through every link this week and found tons of great inspiration...too much. I had to narrow it down. Out of my personal favorites I ended up choosing the bloggers with a link back to the our party.

It's important to link back ya'll! There were more than a few blogs I reeeaaallly wanted to feature but they didn't link back to the party. When you link back, you send traffic to the party. This is good for us and good for you! Think about it, if everyone else is linking back they are sending traffic your way. Be a sweetie and do it for them too.♥

Now give me a hug. I still love you punkin'! If you are new to blogging (as I still feel I am most of the time) don't hesitate to ask for help linking up.

Spring is here! That means fresh vibrant florals and light, airy interiors. A Sort Of Fairy tale reveals a downstairs makeover that inspires me to add some spring to my decor...

Here we have this "Made to look Old" bucket label DIY by Janet at The Decorating Diaries. Didn't she dress it up and stage it beautifully?

If you haven't checked out the $200 kitchen and dining room makeovers over at The Vintage Farmhouse here's your chance.

A fresh coat of white paint and a chandelier never looked so chic!

And speaking of fresh white paint...this china hutch by Fresh Vanilla for C is sparkling in a room of powder blues and crisp whites...

White painted furniture is so classic to me. You can take something dark and heavy and with white paint, make it as light as a cloud. Like this sideboard by Knick of Time Interiors

I would be giddy to receive a handmade party invite with a wax seal, like Cinderella opening an invitation to a royal ball! Here's a neat one by The Brilliant Crafty Type

If you love before and afters, check out this cool ottoman makeover at Leone Design

We thank EVERYONE who takes the time to join our party. Now link up below and show us your latest and greatest creations!

A Shabby-fied Lamp, Corbels and a Gift

I make my bed in two different ways. I usually just pull up the sheets/blanket and flop the pillows into place in a thoughtless rush. My bedding is all white and I swear, our black lab will only jump up onto the bed if the covers are pulled down so that she can leave a nice nest of needle sharp black hair right in the center. Anyways, I usually just throw the covers up to cover the sheets but about twice a week I make the bed up really pretty with all the decorative pillows and such. This morning as I was doing this one of my white pillowcases literally came apart at the seams. Obviously top quality! : D

So instead of tossing it I ripped it into strips and shabby-fied a dollar store lamp I had recently spray painted. I think I'll wax it so it doesn't have that "obviously spray painted" look. Kinda cute huh? My girls (7 & 3) helped me make it and it'll probably end up in one of their rooms.

I was so thrilled to receive a free gift from Okio B Designs today! I knew I had won the flat iron mat but I wasn't expecting the adorable little French themed goody bag that sweet Jeanine handmade. It was full of all kinds of little pretties and my heart is touched by her kindness.

And lastly, I found a HUGE antique mall on the west side of Houston. It was fun strolling the isles this morning. I found these corbels for a great price. Big and heavy! Not very ornate, but perfect for my project. I'm going to be making something for my bedroom with these babies.

Thank you for stopping by. Don't forget to link up to the party!
