I bought this chippy old white trunk and now what???

I need your help. If writers get writers' block, then I have DIY'ers block. And by the way, my spell check had no idea what to do with "DIY'ers", so it will be my made up word until one of you corrects me. :)

I impulsively bought this chippy old trunk at a thrift store weeks ago for $8 and I have no idea what to do with it. I don't want it as a coffee table so there goes that idea.

What about something Christmas-y?

I want to do something unexpected with it. Got any ideas or links to examples I can take a peek at?
What would you do with it? Trash it or transform it?

If I end up using your idea I will do a reveal and link it to you!

  1. This may seem like a shameless plug, but I bought an old suitcase and painted it white inside and out and decorate it for a lot of holidays. This is my Christmas link http://organizedclutterqueen.blogspot.com/2011/12/christmas-2011-decorating-suitcase.html

  3. I've been seeing a lot of British flags and have been wanting to do one. That might be nice. I found an example on this blog

I think she got the image from Marshals.

  4. Hi Linsey~
What about making it a keepsake box for your your special mementos? With your talent, you could paint the dreamiest scenes on it! Is the interior in good shape?
Do you have someone who could make a stand for it?
I'm sure the great ideas will keep rolling in. :)

  5. This is so funny because I had a trunk in my basement forever that I had gotten for free and I just recently painted it white. It looks so much like yours. Right now it is just sitting in my entryway holding winter gear with a couple of things on top. I am so looking forward to what others have to say (and what you do with it) because, after taking some pictures of my entry w/ the trunk it just looks sort of blah. So I definitely need some inpiration, too.

  6. How about something patriotic, 4th of July-y, lol. Some flag bunting peeking out of it...The trunk is adorable!

  7. I know you will come up with a fabulous finish for your trunk. As far as what to keep in it, there's one thing that comes to mind as the mother of 2 daughters.

    Dress up clothes!

We always had a trunk filled with old aprons, skirts, formals, hats, shoes, etc. Anything that our girls could wear to become a princess, nurse, teacher, McDonald's cashier...whatever their imaginative minds could dream up!

  8. I've seen them transformed into wall mounted shelves. You need to have a couple of shelves inserted. Would be great for toilet paper in a washroom, or photos…I'm sure you have LOTS of interesting items!! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it!

  11. I have one in my bedroom. It sits at the end of my bed.I use it as a bed bench and it stores all of our photos(remember film cameras LOL)and things.Great for storage!OR what about out on a porch? If you have a covered porch also great for storing outdoor things and can be used as a table or extra seating.

  12. My suggestion would be the style that my tator bin is getting. Either white or red with black sponged squares for a checkerboard effect. MacKenzie-Child's Courtly Check is a favorite look of mine.

  13. I love the white, I wouldn't paint it, what about little legs and take top off and make a pet bed, providing you have pets lol
I know you don't want a coffee table but add legs and putting it at the end of a bed for extra storage was a good idea too

  14. I took a look on pinterest- there are two trunks on there that you might like- one is painted yellow, and another has 12 stenciled on it. These kind of trunks have never really appealed to me, but when I saw the stenciled one, I kind of changed my mind.

  15. Hi, Linsey!!!
Everybody has lots of creative ideas!!!
I would keep it white and SELL IT!!!
I barely started my business but my most sold pieces are TRUNKS. Everybody needs them for storage...
I also have one by my bed that I keep all my silver for sale.
    Have fun!!!

  16. Hi Linsey, I am actually working on the same exact truck you have picture. I just finish the outside and am in the process of finishing inside. I will send you a picture when I finish tomorrow. Check my blog for a trunk I did a few weeks ago.

  17. How about photo-copying some family photos and then decopauging them on there? How about putting it on an old sewing machine stand and then it's at a great height and more usable? Good luck - love the white!

  18. I know those fairy gardens are popular right now. One of my blog friends used a wheel barrel to make one. Maybe you could use this outside in some sort of way. I love the trunk though. What a great find.

  19. Chalk paint it in some cute blues/greys/greens/creams. Freshen up inside with fabric dryer sheets and use it for your little girls dress up clothes...Princesses forever!
