What began as our transition to a king size bed ended with my need for all new bedding. King bedding...cha-ching!!!
The GOOD thing is that when you start with a blank white canvas, it's easy to change out the feel of a room without breaking the bank.
At about the same time that we bought the new frame and mattresses, I started yearning for some bright colors and more modern touches around the house. I've really been drawn to the "Modern Country" look lately, the mix of old and new...
Or the reinvention of old looks with a fresh ,updated look...
I hunted and hunted and HUNTED for bedding. I knew I wanted the look of a fresh, colorful, MODERN twist on a patchwork quilt. But everything I fell in love with was a small fortune, especially if I wanted shams.
I ended up settling on this set from Walmart.com. I can't believe I just admitted that! It's 100% cotton and the perfect weight for a Houston summer. It got rave reviews online and I agree with the acclaim...it's an amazingly pretty and high quality set. The shams even have tie backs, which I love. The entire set was 79.99. My sheets were more than that!
The colorful fabric on the accent pillow is 1960's vintage DuPont I found a large scrap in a cute shop on my recent trip to new Hampshire.
It turns out that my Crepe Myrtle painting is perfect in here too!
Found that little deer for 79 cents at Goodwill this morning! And the lamps were on clearance at Tar-jay this weekend. I did splurge on the shades ($30 each...that's a splurge for me!)
And there you have it! A colorful, fresh new summer space. My husband said "Wow, I love it!". Music to my ears!
Hope I didn't rock the boat to much for you, what with all these bright colors, my faithful friends. :D
♥Linsey
p.s. White plates hanging next to the painting...yay or nay? Like, 3 and 3? Your thoughts?

It looks wonderful. Great job! Unfortunately I have no decorating talent whatsoever so I have no valuable advice on the plates.
ReplyDeleteYes, I love the idea of china next to your painting ~ dresses it up just a little more. Beautiful room you have. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWow- you did a great job on this room!
ReplyDeleteI don't usually go for colour- but this is awesome!
Your painting is the best part - oh and the lamp shade? TOTALLY makes the lamp!
I would say the plates would look awesome and give you some decor texture w/o seeming too busy or crowded, being all white.
Well done, Linsey!!
Love love love it!! But then you know I love color! I say yes to the plates.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute bedding! Your room looks beautiful! That is great that your hubby love it too!
ReplyDeleteLove it!! Yes to the plates!!
ReplyDeleteWow, great job on your room! Love the bedding and those shams are adorable!
ReplyDeleteLove the little deer too!
I'd do the plates with your picture:)
Linsey, I love your room. That bedding is very cute and who cares where it came from. It's adorable. Lucky you to get a king bed. I wish we could.
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful! I love the quilt that you got at WalMart. I don't go there (don't like our store) but often see neat things people find. Your artwork is the crowning touch and jumps out as soon as you look in the room.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love it! I don't think it's too much color at all, it's very fresh and clean looking. I love the painting. I say yes to the plates since the bed is wide. Great job!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
I love every inch of it, just perfect:)
ReplyDeleteYour room turned out so great! I love the bedding... I know what you mean about bedding costing a fortune. I bought a Duvet cover "On Sale." When we re-did our room, We made ours and I love it. As far as the plates... I think that would look nice, Theres no rules I believe in decorating your home. Its your blank canvas where you can do whatever makes you feel good. BREAK ALL THE "RULES" and go for it. lol

very pretty, I love the colors. . . I'm just recently getting sucked into the all white theme, late bloomer, but I do love the colors in your room. I say NO to the plates. . . I think I'm out numbered tho, I think it's too predictable and would take away from the beautiful painting. . . just my opinion. . .
ReplyDeleteLovin' the color! So fresh and crisp. The lampshades are adorable!!
ReplyDeleteI just llove everything. I think white plates would be great. Looks so Fresh and peaceful. Great job! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteThe bedroom looks lovely! Love the quilt--I have admired it from Joss & Main. And I vote for the plates!
ReplyDeleteYes on the white plates. :) Love, love, love this room. Great bedding, love the picture (want one). Beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks wonderful! I love that your husband loves it!
ReplyDeleteYour new bedding is so pretty. I just love pops of color in a white space. Somehow it makes the color so much more special and pretty.
ReplyDeleteI say Yah to the plates next to the painting. I think it would fill in the space above the bed nicely. It would be fun if you could find a few pale colored ones that work with your room.
It's beautiful, Linsey! Not too much color at all, just a perfect balance. The little shelf with the quilts is so darling. Your painting is the crowning touch! I say try the plates. If you don't like them, it's easy to take them away. Thanks for sharing your pretty, happy room!
ReplyDeleteJeanette

the bed looks fresh and pretty, linsey:) and i like the idea of the plates around the painting. the lampshades and your cute bag look great, too!
ReplyDeleteI too love what the room looks like, just enough colour with all the white. Your painting is wonderful, and I'd say yes to the plates, just not 3 and 3 configuration, try the picture, off centre and then four plates ?? You've inspired me to 'get crackin'!
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom turned out so charming! I love all the vintage touches and that stripy new pillow! I'd love it if you would share this at "What We Accomplished Wednesday," at Green Willow Pond. It is live right now. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Deborah
