I've always loved a romantic and light bedroom. Even when I was a little girl. Back then I had all white wicker furniture. I remember Laura Ashley bedding and posters of ballerinas. I now realize that I always gravitated to the shabby look...even before it had a name.
Over the past few years I've transitioned all of the sheets in the house to white as well as all of the towels. I like that it always looks fresh, it matches everything and it can be bleached. It's just so crisp!
I've never done a master bedroom overhaul. This is pretty much what it has looked like for 15 years. Uh-oh. Is my bedroom turning into one of those hairstyles that women keep decades after the fad has passed? Haha!
When the first Rachel Ashwell book came out in the mid 90's it was like being struck by lightning...my style had a name! Around the same time I inherited my mothers old bedroom furniture. Dark brown and straight out of the 70's, but good quality. She helped me apply layers of buttery yellow and white paints, wax and romantic vintage glass hardware. Oh... and lots of sanding to make it chippy.
A chandelier would be the bomb in here. But in Texas...in the hottest sun-facing room of the house, the ceiling fan must stay. : (
My Shabby Chest of drawers..."shabbied" in 1995. I still love it!
Miss Shadow, our first daughter...
Random discount bedding, collected here and there, can marry together seamlessly when white is the theme. This works out well if you can't afford to buy the entire Ralph Lauren Couture Yellow and Green 50 piece bedding set!
I must admit, I've been drooling over the ruffled linen coverlets and shams so popular lately. If the sky was the limit I'd have the crinkliest, ruffliest most romantic bed money could buy. But I'm fine with this. The dog and kids can rough house on it. If something spills on it I can throw it all in the wash without special care. It feels like home and at the end of the day it is my favorite place to be...
...wrinkles, dog hair, sippy cups and all!

Sooooooo Pretty!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Linsey - love it!
ReplyDeleteThat bed makes me want to take a running jump and plop full force right into it and nap!
You will have time for your zillion dollar bed sets.....I am there now, but what I wouldn't give to have my little ones back and rough housing in the house.....they stay little about 45seconds, I swear!
Your bedroom is lovely! Thanks for sharing it :)
ReplyDeleteVery pretty!
ReplyDeleteyour bedroom is so pretty, like a dream!
ReplyDeleteLinsey it is fabulous! I want to change our bedroom out but we have heavy dark furniture that I know I will not be allowed to touch so eventually as I find a new vintage piece here and there I have plans of moving some of our furniture into the attic when hubby is at work!;) Love your room and yes I agree a chandy would be divine but just not practical for us. Sigh...I want to put on in the guest room but it gets full on sun most of the day. Off to going your party!:)
ReplyDeleteOh Linsey, your master bedroom is so pretty! I can see why it would be your favorite place at the end of the day. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your evening, Gail
ReplyDeleteLinsey,
ReplyDeleteYour room looks so pretty. And yes I too would love to have a ruffled bed.But it is not in my budget.Hmmm if only I could sew I would try and make one of my own.
Anne
You've succeeded in making your bedroom dreamy and romantic! So lovely.

Lindsey, Your bedroom is so light, romantic and fresh! You must love going to bed and must love getting up in such a pretty place even better.
ReplyDeleteYour advice about white towels and bedding is so wise... and pretty.
I am a follower!
I love your room! All the whites are so fresh and clean! Great decorating!
ReplyDeleteYour master bedroom is lovely! I too am loving white bedding, never thought I would say that, now, I would love to re do my daughter's room in white as well, and yes, I have been eyeing a ruffled bedskirt, because ruffles are the best :) I also like the fact, that you can mix and match brands, and it still looks like you bought the set. I hear ya about the chandelier, I just gave in and ordered one, but, I am so not looking forward to the very hot summer days.
ReplyDeleteI first read your bedroom post as the "hottest room in the house." I laughed and then reread.
ReplyDeleteI am just crazy about me some Farmhouse Porch!
Beautiful room. I feel the ceiling fan pain. We have an old radiator heating system, so no ductwork in the house to add central air. So.....ceiling fans in the 3 upstairs bedrooms. I did find one I like at Lowe's. It has ORB metal parts, white (oops, I painted them white) blades and 3 vintage looking white acorn lights.
ReplyDeleteOh I think its just perfect...I hate our bedroom and now thanks to you I hate it even more!!!! x0x0
ReplyDeleteHi Linsey,
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your master bedroom! You're right about the ceiling fans in Texas - we need them! If your bedroom is a hairstyle, it's a classic one that looks great all the time!

Everything is so beautiful, Linsey!
ReplyDeleteYou were ahead of your time!
I can't believe you re-did that piece in 95!!!
Cheers,
Claudine
Certainly sounds like a real home, not just a show place, but thats Rachel Ashwell. Love your bedroom. xx
ReplyDeleteyour pictures make me want to clean my house...well done!!
ReplyDeleteLinsey you've created a beautiful retreat...I love every detail!
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom looks so pretty, Linsey! I know exactly what you mean about Rachel's first book when it came out...I felt exactly the same way!! You did a fantastic job on your shabby furniture...isn't it great how after all these years it's still as pretty as ever...shabby will always be "in" if you ask me! How about a corner plug in swag chandelier, since you don't want to lose the ceiling fan??
ReplyDeleteSo impressed you did your drawers back in 95! I love the airy romantic-ness of the room :) x
ReplyDeleteTrends come and go--but beautiful, classic, good ideas are just plain TIMEless! Your room is exactly that!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it cool to know you were waaay ahead in the game?!
Catherine
Linsey, I love the whole room and I can't believe you painted your bedroom in 1995! It still looks very fresh and current! I too loved Rachel Ashwell when her book was first released! It took a while to break my husband into letting me do a more feminine look! Looks great!
ReplyDeleteHi Linsey! Your room is so lovely & serene. I love your shabbied chest of drawers and the vintage book with the key is just beautiful. Love the music that is playing too.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day today! XO
Could compete with the finest B&B! LOVE the coverlet and the arrangement on the side table.
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous Linsey, I love your style.
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Australia♥

I recently started buying some random whites to add to our bed, too, Linsey. You're right, as long as they are white they seem to go wonderfully together.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! It is giving me some great inspirations for my bedroom!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! I love the romantic and simple bedding and your distressed chest is gorgeous.
